The #1 Movie on Netflix Is a Gritty Thriller from the Director of ‘My Bloody Valentine 3D’

The #1 film on Netflix today is an action thriller called Aftermath. No, not the 2017 flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, silly. The picture in question is a 2024 release helmed by none other than Patrick Lussier, director of the brutal horror remake My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Aftermath enjoyed a day-and-date release in November 2024. The picture grossed less than $50,000 during its brief theatrical bow. However, the flick seems to be finding its audience on Netflix. The picture only recently landed on the platform. Aftermath debuted on the streamer on February 10, 2025, and quickly became a hot commodity. Today, the gritty action thriller has dethroned the Amy Schumer comedy Kinda Pregnant to claim the top chart position. Not too shabby.

The setup for this Patrick Lussier thriller on Netflix is this:

Trapped on Boston’s Tobin Bridge after a bomb explosion, a former Army ranger must use his elite training to save his sister and fellow hostages from a group of vengeful ex-military contractors.

Aftermath stars Mason Gooding, Dylan Sprouse, Megan Stott, and Dichen Lachman. Lussier helms the flick from a script by first-time screenwriter Nathan Graham Davis.

I scoured some of the film’s user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb while I was researching for this post. Unfortunately, they aren’t great. However, I am an unapologetic fan of Patrick Lussier. I think he’s an underrated director. I had a great time with Trick and Play Dead, both of which I have previously featured in my column, The Overlooked Motel. Not to mention, Drive Angry is a fun, frenetic, and underrated effort. Hell, I even have a soft spot for the universally derided Dracula 2000.

I am going to add Aftermath to my list and give it a shot sometime soon. I dig an over-the-top action thriller. And as I mentioned previously, I am a big Patrick Lussier enthusiast. I only hope we get to see him team up with frequent collaborator Todd Farmer again sometime soon.

If you’re keen to experience Aftermath, head over to Netflix and give it a shot.
