Guillermo del Toro Calls This Free-to-Stream Horror Thriller “An audiovisual feast”

If you’re looking for a movie to watch and can’t make up your mind, I’ve got the remedy. More specifically, Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has the remedy.
The Mimic director runs a mini-feature on his social media called Righting a Wrong. The recurring segment sees del Toro championing a cinematic offering that is either unfairly maligned by the masses or unduly lacks recognition. A while back, the filmmaker championed a neo-noir crime thriller from 1987.
His recommendation comes via Twitter (It will never be X to me). The director’s tweet reads, “RIGHTING A WRONG: Angel Heart by Alan Parker. An amazing movie, a perfect Rourke. A Borges-like noir mystery. An audiovisual feast.”

Where is Angel Heart available to watch?
If the promise of Mickey Rourke at his best (and a rave endorsement from Guillermo del Toro) has you eager to check the film out, you are in luck. You can find Angel Heart streaming for free (with ads) on Pluto as of the publication of this post.
The picture is adapted from William Hjortsberg’s 1978 novel Falling Angel. In addition to helming the project, director Alan Parker also wrote the screen treatment.
Parker initially considered Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro for the role of lead character Harry Angel before ultimately settling on Rourke. De Niro eventually agreed to appear in a supporting role.
The Motion Picture Association of America originally slapped the film with a dreaded X (now NC-17) rating when Parker first submitted Angel Heart for classification. Parker eventually acquiesced to the MPAA and cut 10 seconds of steamy footage to secure a more commercially friendly R-rating.
The setup for this Guillermo del Toro-endorsed horror thriller goes like this:
Harry Angel (Rourke) is a private detective contracted by Louis Cyphre (De Niro) to track down the iconic singer Johnny Favorite. However, everybody that Angel questions about Favorite seems to meet a tragic demise. Eventually, the trail leads Angel to New Orleans where he learns that Favorite had dabbled in the black arts. As Favorite’s whereabouts and true identity become clear, Angel learns that being hired by Cyphre is not a random choice.
