The Scariest Horror Movie of 2024 is Finally Streaming on Hulu and it’s Completely “Twisted”

Last year’s horror movies were a delectable, delicious, enticing banquet. Coming up with my favorite horror movies of the year was more complicated than it was in past years, mainly because there was so much great stuff released. Oddity scared me, and The Substance is rightfully making its way through the awards circuit as we speak. It was a banner year for the genre, showcasing how much life remains in one of the most classic storytelling genres. Now Hulu has scooped up one of the buzziest titles.

However, one of the year’s most hotly-anticipated releases made my list in the months since there’s been a quick (and somewhat incredulous) reevaluation. The film was terrifying and expertly crafted, though the general public and some serious critics have reduced it to a bed of hot malarkey. I disagree, though, after the premiere last summer, the film is finally available to stream, so whether it’s your first or fourth time, you can see whether it’s overrated or a new classic. I’m talking, of course, about Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, which is now streaming on Hulu.

Per Hulu: In pursuit of a serial killer, an FBI agent uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.

I love Longlegs, and I have no shame about it. I echo the sentiments of our perfect, five-star review. Last summer, we wrote, “Here, Perkins creates a film akin to a modern Silence Of The Lambs, that isn’t afraid to dip into the supernatural. Featuring stunning and haunting performances from Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Alicia Witt, and Blair Underwood, Longlegs horrifically embodies the idea of gazing into a deep dark abyss, full of nothing but despair.” I loved it so much that I even sent several friends—none of whom are horror fans—to check out the film and report back with their thoughts.

The movie scared them, too. I can’t account for why the film seems to have fallen out of favor so quickly, though it’s unsurprising, especially with critically acclaimed horror movies. That’s always going to happen. When everyone calls something the scariest movie ever made (and in Longlegs’ case, I think many of those critics were right), many people are bound to be disappointed. Perhaps the streaming release will inject new life into its devilishly frightening veins. Check out some choice social media reactions below:

These are my people. But I want to hear what you think. Any plans to rewatch Longlegs on Hulu? Is it a new modern masterpiece or overrated schlock. Sound off on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
