The #1 Movie on Netflix Is a Disturbing Crime Thriller Starring a Teen Icon all Grown Up

Netflix just added a chilling murder mystery to its lineup and the film is already captivating subscribers. In fact, the feature in question stands as the most-watched movie on the platform in the U.S. today. The picture of which I speak is called To Catch a Killer.

I did a double-take when I saw that the film was trending. It looked vaguely familiar, yet I couldn’t quite place it. Well, I watched the trailer and that cleared some things up. I have definitely seen To Catch a Killer. I must have watched it on another platform at some point. While the flick didn’t make a major impression on me, I do remember connecting with rising star Shailene Woodley in the lead role. Woodley plays a complex, dynamic character with a decidedly dark side.

The critical response to the film has been lukewarm thus far. The picture has a Rotten Tomatoes critical approval rating of 53%. The site’s consensus reads, “Damián David Szifron’s stylish direction and fine performances bolster To Catch a Killer‘s case, but a derivative script throws this thriller off course.”

To Catch a Killer

I have to agree with my peers, seeing as the one element that stands out to me is Woodley’s performance. The rest of the film is fairly forgettable. With that said, I remember being entertained. So, if you’re game for a popcorn thriller, you could do much worse. Head over to Netflix and give To Catch a Killer a shot if you’re curious.

The nuts and bolts:

Damián Szifron directed To Catch a Killer from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jonathan Wakeham. To Catch a Killer is Szifron’s first English language picture.

To Catch a Killer played in international theaters and returned a grand total of $3.1 million during its theatrical bow.

The picture’s original title was Misanthrope. However, when Vertical Entertainment acquired the flick for distribution, the title became To Catch a Killer.

The setup for this crime thriller on Netflix goes as follows:

A troubled police officer is recruited by the FBI’s chief investigator to help profile and track down a disturbed individual terrorizing Baltimore, Maryland.
