This Depraved Found Footage Chiller on Netflix is a Favorite of Horror Icon Mike Flanagan

Netflix creep 2

If you enjoy a creepy cinematic antagonist with a disquieting penchant for violating social norms, I’ve got a treat in store for you today. A horror sequel that fits the above description is now streaming on Netflix. Oh, and did I mention that celebrated director Mike Flanagan is a fan of the film in question?

As for the film, I’m talking about Patrick Brice’s found footage shocker Creep 2. I know Flanagan is a fan of the flick because he added the picture to a Letterboxd list featuring his favorite horror films. Perhaps not surprisingly, Flanagan’s list also includes the first series installment, Creep.

Where is Creep available to stream?

If you’re keen to pay a visit to the Creep franchise, both cinematic series installments are available to stream on Netflix as of the publication of this post. If you really want to go down the Creep rabbit hole, you can also find The Creep Tapes, the latest effort from the Creep universe, streaming on Shudder.

Creep series co-creator Mark Duplass once explained that the idea for the films sprang from a variety of awkward Craigslist encounters and his appreciation for character-driven dramas. Duplass, who plays Josef in the series conceived the concept alongside director Patrick Brice. The pair initially wanted to call the film Peachfuzz, which is a reference to the mask Josef wears in the films. However, they ultimately settled on a less ambiguous title.

Some accounts suggest the original Netflix film was made for less than $500. If that claim is even close to accurate, that is a remarkable success story. Say what you will about the found footage technique, it has made filmmaking more accessible to scrappy, resourceful creators.

The Creep 2 cast includes Mark Duplass, Desiree Akhavan, and Karan Soni.

The setup for this shocking found footage sequel favored by Mike Flanagan goes as follows:

A video artist looking for work drives to a remote house in the forest to meet a man claiming to be a serial killer. But after agreeing to spend the day with him, she soon realizes that she made a deadly mistake.
