One of Denzel Washington’s Darkest Thrillers is Free to Stream, But Not For Much Longer

Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington has appeared in films from a multitude of different genres over the course of his decades-long career. He’s toplined comedies, biopics, dramas, and everything in between. The beloved thespian even appeared in a proper horror movie with Fallen.
I would love to see Washington appear in more horror films. It’s interesting to see his darker side. Though he doesn’t appear to be in any rush to do more horror, he has appeared in a few noteworthy roles where we get to see a grittier side of him. One such example is the crime picture Devil in a Blue Dress. It’s a gritty noir thriller from 1995 that tackles some heavy themes. Natch, Washington is pitch-perfect in the flick.

Where is Devil in a Blue Dress available to stream?
However, you don’t have to take my word for it. No, dear reader. The film is streaming on Pluto as of the publication of this post. So, you can check it out for yourself. Don’t delay, though. The film is only available to stream on the platform until the end of March 2025.
If you need more convincing before checking the film out, allow me to relay that Devil in a Blue Dress is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a critical approval rating of 92%. The PopcornMeter (formerly the audience score) is also rather favorable at 71%.
Carl Franklin wrote and directed Devil in a Blue Dress. He adapted the script from Walter Mosley’s 1990 novel bearing the same title.
The setup for this ‘90s Denzel Washington thriller goes like this:
In late 1940s Los Angeles, Easy Rawlins (Washington) is an unemployed black World War II veteran with few job prospects. At a bar, Easy meets DeWitt Albright (Tom Sizemore), a mysterious white man looking for someone to investigate the disappearance of a missing white woman named Daphne Monet (Jennifer Beals), who he suspects is hiding out in one of the city’s black jazz clubs. Strapped for money and facing house payments, Easy takes the job but soon finds himself in over his head.
Well, there you have it. That is everything we’ve got for you, for the time being.
