The #1 Horror Movie on Max Is a Mega Blockbuster Sequel Starring Jason Statham

I first took note of Jason Statham when he saw fit to parade around shirtless in The Transporter circa 2002. I’ve been a die-hard fan of him ever since. I will watch almost anything in which the British zaddy appears. Especially shirtless sharksploitation fare like The Meg movies.
Speaking of The Meg films, Meg 2: The Trench is currently the #1 horror film on HBO’s Max platform and the sixth most-watched title on the streamer overall today! How about that? Apparently, I’m not the only one with a deep-seated appreciation for Statham’s rugged good looks and expert shark-minding skills.

Meg 2: The Trench seems to be trending out of the blue!
Here’s what’s interesting about all this: It appears that the film was added to the platform back in September of 2023. So, it’s not entirely clear why the flick is trending out of the blue. Perhaps it’s because these are trying times we live in and everyone needs a bit of levity right now. The flick certainly provides that. It’s an over-the-top romp sure to put a smile on the face of anyone fond of absurdist action-horror and British national treasure Jason Statham.
If you’re game for a rip-roaring good time and need to escape reality for a bit, head over to Max and show the flick some love. The film slayed at the box office. So, you know it’s a crowd-pleaser.
Kill List director Ben Wheatley helmed Meg 2: The Trench from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris. Their script is based on a novel by bestselling author Steve Alten.
The flick stars Jason Statham, Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.
The setup for this toothy effort on Max goes as follows:
Jonas Taylor leads a research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal, prehistoric sharks and relentless environmental plunderers, they must outrun, outsmart, and out-swim their merciless predators.
That is just about everything that we have for you at present.
