Stephen King Loves Controversial New Netflix Thriller, Calls Series “Old school” and “Terrific”

Iconic actor Robert De Niro is toplining a new Netflix limited series with a dynamite supporting cast. The program is called Zero Day. Despite the tremendous talent involved, the critical reviews thus far have been lukewarm. Some film scholars have called out the plot as farcical and over the top. The farfetched narrative hasn’t stopped Stephen King from enjoying the series, though. Not in the slightest.
The Misery author recently hopped onto Threads to sing the program’s praises. His enthusiastic social media endorsement reads, “Watching Zero Day (Netflix): It’s old school, but it’s terrific. Great Tucker Carlson-type character. You could say it’s a caricature, but Tucker himself has become a cartoon conservative. First 3 episodes directed by Leslie Linka Glatter, the best director of streaming TV, hands down.”

Like I said, King is taken with the show. He followed that post up with a caveat paying tribute to another television director whose work resonates with him, saying: “Except maybe for Jack Bender: Lost, Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of Watch, Lost, From…the forhcoming (sic) The Institute…I could go on…”
If you’re game to escape reality and lose yourself in a binge-able thriller with a top-notch cast, Zero Day may be just the ticket. If this limited series sounds like your cup of tea, head over to Netflix and give it a shot. It’s only six episodes, so it’s not a major time investment.
I was dead serious earlier when I said that the show boasts a killer lineup. Here are the receipts. Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III, Angela Bassett, and Matthew Modine round out the cast.
The setup for this Stephen King-approved series is this:
Zero Day asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?
That is absolutely everything that we have for you, for the time being.
