Dread Central Receives Four Nominations For the 2025 Rondo Awards

Since 2002, the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards—which are colloquially known simply as the Rondos—have been recognizing horror excellence and giving horror fans a voice, letting them vote and champion their favorite horror media of the year. We’re especially excited about this year’s ballot as Dread Central has once again received four nominations!
And the nominees are…
First, Dread Central was once again nominated for best overall site for providing the best in horror news, reviews, interviews, and more. Dread Central previously took the award home fours years in a row, from 2009 to 2012. It’s time to bring it home again for the best place for horror news, editorials, and insightful interviews about your favorite genre.
Tyler Doupé’s weekly column and video series (edited by Ashleigh Slocum), The Overlooked Motel was nominated for the second year in a row (Doupé’s book Queer Horror: A Film Guide also received a nomination for Book of the Year). In the column, Doupé highlights underrated horror cinema across the decades that deserves way more attention, from old TV movies to new releases that flew way under the radar. Watch all of the videos here and read his column here.
Scarred For Life, a Dread podcast hosted by editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews and Terry Mesnard, also received their second consecutive Rondo nomination for best podcast. In the show, McAndrews and Mesnard interview guests about the film that terrified them as a kid. They dive deep into films and even TV episodes that shook horror filmmakers, writers, composers, costume designers, and more to their core. Recent guests include Josh Ruben (director of Heart Eyes), Heidi Honeycutt (author of I Spit On Your Celluloid), Pascal Plante (director of Red Rooms), and Steven C. Miller (director of Werewolves).
And last (but certainly not least), Dread’s 2024 witchy nightmare Beezel was nominated for best streaming/independent film. Directed by Aaron Fradkin (Val) and co-written by Fradkin and Victoria Fradkin, the film takes place in a single house over 80 years as a hungry, angry witch devours those who dare to call the house home. It’s gory and upsetting, the perfect combination, if you ask me. If you haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet, it’s streaming now on Tubi and other digital platforms.
