Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are a match made in heaven, from Flanagan’s gnarly take on Gerald’s Game to his uniquely crafted Doctor Sleep, which surprisingly earned the author’s favor. Now, Flanagan is back with another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, a novella previously published in the 2020 collection If It Bleeds. Today, Neon has released the first trailer for the upcoming film!

The synopsis for the film is simple: The Life of Chuck unravels the seemingly ordinary world of accountant Charles ‘Chuck’ Krantz.

Watch the first trailer now:

The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Jacob Tremblay, and Benjamin Pajak star as Chuck in various stages of his life. Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, and Rahul Kohli star in the film, with Nick Offerman featured as the narrator.

The Life of Chuck premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award. Dread Central’s Josh Korngut reviewed the film out of TIFF and wrote,

Perhaps easiest described as Our Town by way of string theory, Mike Flanagan continues to showcase why he’s uniquely capable of staging Stephen King at his most unadaptable with this heartbreaking rendition of The Life of Chuck.

Neon brings The Life of Chuck to theaters this summer.
