The Series on Max Quentin Tarantino Says “Is the only show that I literally watched three times”
Quentin Tarantino has often been vocal in his disdain for television. He once likened the critically acclaimed Paramount series Yellowstone to a soap opera. However, there’s at lease one serialized drama that won the Pulp Fiction director over.
In conversation with Vulture, Tarantino opened up about a series with which he really connected. When the outlet asked him about True Detective, he admitted that he couldn’t get into that serialized crime drama and then segued directly into his affinity for another HBO program.
“Now, the HBO show I loved was Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom,” Tarantino told the outlet. “That was the only show that I literally watched three times.”
Tarantino went on to explain that he would watch new episodes on Sunday night when they aired. Then, he’d restart the episode that just played and watch it a second time that same day. The filmmaker finished by saying he’d usually rewatch the latest episode a third time during the week just to hear the dialogue once more.
With a high profile fan like Tarantino, you might expect that the show was critically acclaimed during its time on the air. It actually wasn’t. The collective reaction was mixed at best. The show has a critical approval rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes.
