Josh Ruben made a name for himself making indie horror gems like Werewolves Within and Scare Me. Now, he’s forging new paths in the slasher world with his new film Heart Eyes, a rom-com slasher perfect for Valentine’s Day and every day in between. With the film out now on digital, we’re celebrating with an exclusive clip just for you!

In the film, “For the past several years, the “Heart Eyes Killer” has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe…”

In our exclusive deleted scene from the digital release, the Heart Eyes Killer has a rather unusual meeting with Jordana Brewster’s Detective Shaw.

Watch now:

Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding star in the film with Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster.

In his review of the film, Dread Central’s managing editor Josh Korngut wrote, “While it’s not the most terrifying slasher out there, it’s a fresh and entertaining twist on the genre that could pave the way for more horror-romantic comedies in the future.”

Ruben directed Heart Eyes from a script written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy.

Heart Eyes is out now on digital!

From working with George Romero on everything from Creepshow and Dawn of the Dead to Tales from the Darkside to the Dune miniseries to his Netflix series Residue...he's done it all. He even directed Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, which was Andrew LaSane's Scarred for Life pick, which is one of Terry's favorite movies. We chat about his long history in cinema; about how he started working with Romero to some insights into Tales from the Darkside. And we discuss his latest work, the novel Residue: Paramentals Rising, which is a sequel to the Netflix show. After learning about his horror history--including a memorable viewing of Night of the Living Dead--we find out why The Haunting terrified him as a twelve year old.
