Unsettling Horror Tale ‘VILE: Exhumed’ To Be Published by DreadXP in 2025
Solo developer Cara Cadaver and horror publisher DreadXP (sister company to Dread Central) are set to release Cadaver’s VILE: Exhumed later this year, supported by the publisher’s XP Ultra program. VILE: Exhumed is a narrative horror game that tells the uncomfortable tale of parasocial obsession gone horribly wrong.
In the game, you’ll wade through the decades-old computer that explores the mind of a deeply disturbed individual. Details around adult film actress Candy Corpse’s recent retirement is just one thing you might uncover as you sift through forums, hard drives, and emails to discover what secrets lie within.
VILE: Exhumed deals with the heavy topics of trauma, sexual violence, entitlement, and violence against women. Player discretion is strongly advised.

Developer Cara Cadaver began working on VILE as a personal project, and the deeply cathartic experience has resonated with many since the release of its prototype on itch.io in 2024. Her work is grounded in reality, building a tale of psychological horror that resonates with many players in the online age.
“VILE is a page ripped right from my journal. I hope it is as uncomfortable and gut-churning to play as it was for me to make. Seeing others play the original version and relate to it so deeply was incredibly special. This expanded version of the game includes even more of the emotional and literal guts of the original. I can’t wait for those guts to get untangled, and for players to arrange them in a meaningful way themselves,” said Cadaver, who founded her studio, Final Girl Games, and plans to maintain a personal voice in all her future work.
The game will include features like:
- Creeping through the darkest pits of an old computer
- Uncovering a rat’s nest of photos, messages, emails, and other digital residue
- Unearthing the aftermath of one man’s obsession with adult film actress Candy Corpse
- Deeply disturbing, gruesome, narrative-driven horror
