This Forgotten Must-See Maika Monroe Horror-Comedy is Now Free to Stream

Maika Monroe has successfully ingratiated herself to horror fans in the years since rising to prominence with the indie hit It Follows. Part of her appeal stems from her impressive acting chops. She’s a great thespian with plenty of range. There’s also her willingness to continue to appear in genre fare after making a name for herself. That’s refreshing, seeing as many actors use the horror genre as a stepping stone and then pivot to more mainstream fare the first chance they get. Oh, and there’s the fact that Ms. Monroe chooses her roles really smartly. She has far more hits than misses on her CV. With a track record like that, it’s no wonder we’ve fallen under her spell.
Speaking of Monroe’s winning track record, Villains, one of her lesser-known (yet still critically acclaimed) efforts, is now available to stream for free. Three cheers for that.

Where can I watch Villains?
If you’re keen to experience this under-seen Maika Monroe horror comedy for yourself, you’ve got plenty of options. The flick is currently available to stream on Hulu, as well as Tubi and several other ad-supported VOD platforms.
Now for the nuts and bolts. Dan Berk and Robert Olsen wrote and directed Villains. If their names ring a bell it’s because they helmed Novocaine, which claimed the #1 slot at the U.S. box office this past weekend. That’s an impressive distinction, even if it was a particularly slow weekend at the multiplex.
The script for Villains was featured on the annual Black List survey in 2016. If you’re not familiar, the Black List ranks the popularity of un-produced scripts. The results are published every year on the second Friday in December.
In addition to the magnetic Maika Monroe, the flick’s impressive cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Blake Baumgartner, Jeffrey Donovan, and Kyra Sedgwick.
The setup for this Maika Monroe horror comedy goes like this:
A pair of amateur criminals attempt to break into a house when their car breaks down. They soon realize they are in over their heads, when they discover that the home owners are harboring a dark secret.
That is just about all that I have for you, for the time being.
