Director Sean Byrne has grabbed the hearts of horror fans with his demented features The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy. Now, almost a decade later, he’s back with his third horror film titled Dangerous Animals, all about a shark-obsessed serial killer and his latest victim.

In the film, “When Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below.

Byrne directs the film from a script by Nick Lepard. Jai Courtney, Hassie Harrison, and Josh Heuston star.

Byrne’s feature film debut The Loved Ones, released in 2009, is a cult horror hit. It’s a gruesome story about a grieving boy, the outcast girl at school, and her burning desire to get a prom date. I sing “Am I not pretty enough?” on the daily, and yell “I can’t hear you!” at my cats as they scream at me for breakfast, so suffice to say I’m a Byrne fan. He takes his time between films, but hopefully that just means they’ll be even better and more terrifying.

IFC Films brings Dangerous Animals exclusively to theaters on June 6, 2025.
