Leaving Netflix Soon: The Giant Monster Movie That Defied Expectations and Dominated the Pandemic Box Office

A film that defied box office projections and raked in a substantial take during the COVID-19 pandemic is gearing up to exit the Netflix platform. Viewers turned out in droves for Godzilla vs. Kong in March 2021, in spite of the film releasing right around the time theaters were cautiously reopening after multiple COVID-19-related shutdowns.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Kaiju fans weren’t about to miss their chance to see the giant monsters go toe to toe on the big screen. The flick surpassed all expectations and pulled in $470.1 million globally. Slightly more than $100 million came from the U.S. and Canada. Though that number pales compared to the international take, the flick bowed on Max at the same time it hit theaters. So, that domestic return is really quite impressive, considering people had the option to stay home and stream the film in their living room instead of venturing out.

When does Godzilla vs. Kong leave the Netflix platform?

If you’re keen to stream Godzilla vs. Kong one more time before it leaves Netflix, your last day to do so is March 29. So act quickly!

Celebrated genre filmmaker Adam Wingard directed Godzilla vs. Kong from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein.

Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Lance Reddick, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir star in the flick.

The setup for this monster mashup goes like this:

Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans — instigated by unseen forces — is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet.
