This Gritty Clint Eastwood Crime Thriller Just Landed on Prime Video

The Mule, Clint Eastwood

If you fancy a chilling, critically acclaimed crime thriller, I’ve got good news for you. Prime Video added Clint Eastwood’s The Mule to their catalog earlier this month.

Fans get a double dose of Eastwood in this flick. He plays the lead role in the film in addition to sitting at the helm. The former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea directs from a script penned by Nick Schenk (who also wrote Gran Torino for Eastwood). Schenk based his screenplay on the New York Times article “The Sinaloa Cartel’s 90-Year-Old Drug Mule” by journalist Sam Dolnick.

The New York Times article profiles Leo Sharp, who was once dubbed the world’s oldest drug mule. He was 87 at the time of his arrest. Sharp died at 92.

Imperative Entertainment initially tapped Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer to helm the project in 2015. In 2018, they revealed that Eastwood was set to direct, star, and produce. The rest, as they say, is history.

In addition to Eastwood, the film stars Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, and Andy García.

Although the picture didn’t reach quite the level of acclaim of some of Eastwood’s other projects, it still fared reasonably well with critics. The picture is ‘fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with an approval rating of 70%. The site’s critical consensus reads: “A flawed yet enjoyable late-period Eastwood entry, The Mule stubbornly retains its footing despite a few missteps on its occasionally unpredictable path.”

If you’re itching to experience the flick, navigate to Prime Video to see what you think of this 2018 crime thriller.

The setup for this Clint Eastwood picture goes like this:

Broke, alone, and facing foreclosure on his business, 90-year-old horticulturist Earl Stone takes a job as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. His immediate success leads to easy money and a larger shipment that soon draws the attention of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates. When Earl’s past mistakes start to weigh heavily on his conscience, he must decide whether to right those wrongs before law enforcement and cartel thugs catch up to him.

That is absolutely everything that I’ve got for you at present. Stay tuned to the site for more updates on which films within your interest set are available to stream and where to find them. If you fancy keeping up with me on social media, I am on Threads as @FunWithHorror.
