This Groundbreaking, Dystopian Thriller Leaves Netflix Soon—Catch It While You Still Can

Mad Max

Are you a Netflix subscriber with an appreciation for the post-apocalyptic antics of the Mad Max franchise? If so, I’ve got an important and very timely update for you. A celebrated Mad Max film is gearing up to leave the Netflix platform very soon!

The feature in question is the fourth franchise installment, Mad Max: Fury Road. Helmed by visionary director George Miller, the film leaves the platform on March 30, 2025. So, now is a good time to squeeze in one last viewing, should you have the urge.

The setup for this post-apocalyptic thriller on Netflix is this:

Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress, the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot’s five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck, the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.

The film had a troubled road to the big screen.

Despite its eventual success, Fury Road languished in development hell for some time before seeing the light of day. Franchise creator George Miller first had the idea for the film back in the ‘80s. From there, he encountered multiple false starts and a series of setbacks. In 2015, the picture finally saw the light of day.

When the flick finally bowed before audiences, it was met with near-universal acclaim. In fact, the film is ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a critical approval rating of 97%. The audience score (now known as the PopcornMeter) isn’t far behind at an impressive 86%.

Miller directed the celebrated dystopian thriller from a script he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris. The writer/director previously said he conceived the feature as one long chase scene. I think it’s safe to say that he succeeded in that conceit.

Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Abbey Lee, Riley Keough, and Courtney Eaton star in the film.
