This Beloved Sequel from a Hit Horror Franchise Leaves Netflix Soon; Don’t Miss Your Chance to Stream It One Last Time!

Where do you stand on Scream (2022), dear reader? I was just discussing this with Dread Central managing editor Josh Korngut, and the fifth film in the franchise ranks near the bottom of the pack for both of us. It’s not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination. I just don’t connect with it on the same level that I do most of the other installments in the franchise. For me, Scream (V) is my fourth favorite series installment, with the third film taking last place.
Do you know where the film lands in your franchise ranking? If you need to experience the picture again to say for sure, I suggest you act quickly. Netflix is dropping the fifth film from the platform soon. To be precise, your last day to watch Scream (V) on Netflix is April 10, 2025.
When I say that Scream (2022) ranks near the bottom for me, it’s not because the fifth series installment is inept or subpar. It’s just that the entire franchise is strong, and the competition is steep. Not to mention, the fifth film passes the torch to the new cast. That was necessary. It can’t continue to be the Sid, Dewey, and Gale show forever. The franchise needs new blood. With that said, it’s not easy to see the series mainstays relegated to the background to allow the new cast to take their places.
This fifth entry in one of the most consistently enjoyable horror franchises around plays out like this:
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, CA, a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Mikey Madison, and Marley Shelton all feature in starring roles in Scream (2022).
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence helmed the picture, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick tackling the script. Radio Silence returned for the sixth series outing, which sits a bit higher in my franchise ranking.
Well, there you go. That’s all I’ve got for now. Stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future if you fancy more updates on which genre films are coming to and going from your favorite streamers. If you want to keep up with me on social media, you can find me on Threads as @FunWithHorror.
