‘Ed Kemper’ Exclusive Clip: A Boy’s First Kill

ed kemper

Between May 1972 and April 1973, Ed Kemper—also known as the Co-Ed Killer—slaughtered seven women and one teenage girl. This is after he murdered his grandparents in cold blood as a teenager. He’s been immortalized in media such as the Netflix series Mindhunter, and now director Chad Ferrin is telling a different side to his story in Dread’s latest release, Ed Kemper.

The new film follows the horrifying true story of Ed Kemper, a cunning and sadistic serial killer shaped by childhood abuse. His charming facade masks his grotesque obsession with murder, mutilation, and the ultimate act of revenge against the woman who scarred him most—his mother.

The new film delves not only into Kemper’s crimes, but also into his mother’s own struggles, as well as their antagonistic and abusive relationship.

In our exclusive clip from Ed Kemper, Kemper himself explains to the parole board that his actions as a child were merely a mistake. But do they believe him?

Watch the clip now:

Lew Temple (The Walking Dead), Cassandra Gava (Conan the Barbarian), Robert Miano (Fast & Furious), Brinke Stevens (House on Haunted Hill), Susan Priver (Night Caller), and Brandon Kirk (Scalper) star in the new true crime thriller.

Ferrin directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Stephen Johnston. Johnston is no stranger to the true crime space, previously penning films such as Ed Gein, The Hillside Strangler, and Ted Bundy.

Johnston said in a previous statement, “I originally envisioned Ed Kemper as having a sort of punk rock horror energy, and seeing that realized by Chad Ferrin’s sure-handed direction, deft performances from the cast, and the hard work of a great crew, and now learning the movie’s going to have its release through Epic Pictures has truly been magical. Sure, it’s a disturbing sort of magical, but that’s the best kind.”

Ed Kemper comes to select theaters beginning April 4, 2025, with a VOD release on April 8, 2025.
