We announced recently that Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder would be featured in the upcoming Almost Mercy. We’ve received a bunch of new casting info (including the signing of a Dr. Gash favorite!) and a mega distribution deal.
The two leads in Almost Mercy will be played by Danielle Guldin and Jessie Default. Also named to the cast will be horror legend Debbie Rochon (pictured; woo hoo!), veteran actor Fred Sullivan, Jr., Eric Nyenhuis, Tanja Lynch, Sean Leser and pro wrestler Michael Bennett.
Wrestling icon Tommy Dreamer is also scheduled to make a cameo appearance in the Woodhaven Production Company project.
“The cast is really coming together,” said Almost Mercy writer/director Tom DeNucci. “We have talented fresh faces to go along with some decorated veterans of the genre. I’m thrilled to have these actors tell the story. It’s a really eclectic bunch.”
This casting news comes hot on the heels of another big announcement from Woodhaven producer Chad A. Verdi. Verdi has announced that his company has come to an agreement with Screen Media Films on a 10-picture distribution deal. Five of the films will be in the horror genre, beginning with Almost Mercy. Universal will release each of the movies through their VOD platform, which reaches over 100 million homes.
“This all started with Screen Media Films in 2010 when they acquired my first film, Inkubus,” Verdi said. “Screen Media has now acquired five feature films from me including Almost Mercy. It’s a very special relationship that I value greatly. Screen Media has a great team that is led by President Suzanne Blech. We have been working together for the past four years, achieving much success; Suzanne is one of the best in the business and a joy to work with. Having a 10-picture distributing deal is a filmmaker’s dream, and I believe this is one of the first of its kind.”
Verdi and his wife, Michelle, are also currently producing a film entitled Bleed for This with Martin Scorsese, Bruce Cohen and Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The film is written and directed by Ben Younger and stars Aaron Eckhart of I, Frankenstein and The Dark Knight along with Divergent star Miles Teller.
Almost Mercy will begin filming in Rhode Island on April 28. More on this one as we get it. To keep up-to-date, visit the official Almost Mercy website, “like” Almost Mercy on Facebook and follow Almost Mercy on Twitter (@Almost_Mercy).
