Director of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Legacy Sequel Now Teases Return of Iconic Character

Brandy I Know What You Did Last summer

The hook is back—and it looks as sharp as ever. Sony Pictures has officially locked in I Know What You Did Last Summer for a July 18, 2025 release, and this time, the teen slasher classic is getting a new lease on legacy courtesy of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge). Longtime fans of the franchise have reason to scream as original icons Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are back in action as Julie James and Ray Bronson—two decades wiser and ready to pass the torch.

But don’t expect a gentle handoff. This legacy sequel isn’t just here to wax nostalgic; it’s bringing the pain. Robinson promises a much nastier iteration of the seaside horror saga, with “more brutal and methodical kills” designed to haunt both seasoned fans and horror-hungry newcomers. Expect blood, yes—but also a slick and self-aware ride that balances heart with horror.

Joining I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 is a fresh crop of talent, including Bodies Bodies Bodies breakout Chase Sui Wonders, Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, rising scream queen Sarah Pidgeon, Little Women’s Jonah Hauer-King, Gabriette of “360” fame, and newcomer Tyriq Withers. This new generation is stepping into the shadow of the slicker-wearing killer, but they won’t be navigating it alone. Julie and Ray will reportedly act as mentors, grounding the next-gen horror in a familiar territory.

One significant question is still being slicked through the discourse: Brandy.

The pop legend and horror heroine hasn’t been confirmed, but she’s openly expressed her desire to revisit Karla Wilson, her fan-favorite character from 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. And since Karla technically survived her film’s bloody climax, the door is wide open. Robinson teased her involvement to People when asked by simply saying: “You’ll have to go see the movie.”

femmes

Whether Brandy returns or not, I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is shaping up to be the kind of revival horror fans dream of: reverent without being precious, slick without feeling soulless, and absolutely drenched in dread. Stay tuned, babe, because the past isn’t just haunting this summer—it’s hunting season.
