2024’s Scariest Movie Just Topped the Hulu Charts: “This movie will stay with you”

Oddity

I recently started a horror movie club with some friends from out of state. The ultimate goal is to slowly desensitize them and later convince them to join a wooded cult I intend to start in the next twenty years. But, in the meantime, it’s an excellent opportunity for me to share some of the horror movies I’ve been loving recently. Our next two films scheduled, for those interested, are Arkasha Stevenson’s The First Omen and Jason Yu’s Sleep. I’m not playing around as curator, okay?

For the inaugural meeting, I had a really hard time narrowing down the list of options. Few of them are horror lovers, and anyone who’s ever helped initiate a new genre fan knows how precise that first horror movie has to be. It’s a make-or-break moment, and through hours of deliberation, I thought of the perfect movie. What better way to start than with last year’s scariest movie? I wasn’t alone in that thinking, either, since Damien Mc Carthy’s Oddity, which recently arrived on Hulu, is currently the most-watched horror movie on the platform. Learn more about Oddity below:

Per Hulu: After Dani is brutally murdered, her blind occultist twin sister, Darcy, goes after those responsible using inherited haunted items as her tools of revenge.

What more is there to say about Oddity? I reckon Mc Carthy’s sophomore feature is well on its way to genre classic status. It’s been topping the charts since its release, and every time it arrives on a new platform, its unrelenting scares are poised to terrify an entirely new audience. Oddity didn’t rank as Dread Central’s favorite horror movie of 2024 for nothing. Last year, we wrote, “Oddity is very scary. Everything on this list is. But, when I say Oddity is scary, I mean really, really scary. The kind of traditional, throwback scary that will have you yelping, jumping from your seat, covering your eyes because you’re too afraid to see what happens next. It’s as pitch-perfect a ghost story as any, distilling decades of tropes and scare tactics into the perfect powder keg of a midnight horror show.”

Flanagan

I get giddy any time I see a new audience discovering Mc Carthy’s truly incredible film. Luckily, fans have taken to social media to share their positive thoughts. Oddity is taking the world by storm, and I don’t think it will be slowing down anytime soon. Check out some choice social media reactions below:

What do you think? Are you already a fan of Oddity? Any plans to check it out again? For the record, my friends loved it, and I even got to hear one of them loudly scream in the Discord chat. Whether it’s the first or tenth time, let me know what you think of Oddity over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
