One thing that was definitely not “In Vain” was our hope that “Salem” would be able to live up to the promise of its creepy promos. In fact, it’s surpassed them, and we’re gearing up for Sunday night’s Ep. 1.03 with an expanded synopsis, some new stills, and two clips. Check ’em out!
“Salem” explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them. The series is created, executive produced, and written by award-winning writer/producer Brannon Braga and Adam Simon.

“Salem” Episode 1.03 – “In Vain” (airs 5/4/14)
Salem trembles in the aftermath of the trial, and Anne (Tamzin Merchant) turns to John Alden (Shane West) for comfort. Mysterious circumstances lead Alden to suspect Magistrate Hale (Xander Berkeley) is not who or what he appears to be. Mary (Janet Montgomery) discovers who witnessed the witches’ ceremony and deliberates a course of action. Elsewhere, George Sibley (Michael Mulheren) begins hatching a plan to escape Mary’s clutches.
In Clip #1, as Cotton (Seth Gabel) questions how the good souls of Salem can be saved, John challenges his judgment while in Clip #2 Mary and Isaac (Iddo Goldberg) discuss the burdens and consequences looming upon Salem.
