If we’ve learned anything from reporting the latest news here at Dread Central over the years, it’s that Hollywood is a fickle place where ideas come and go, and many planned and proposed films find themselves in the dreaded development hell.
One of those doomed projects is a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which has been in the works for several decades with various different writers and directors attached.
Though we’ve got nothing new to report with regard to the creature’s return to the big screen, the folks over at Shock Till You Drop posted an interesting concept sculpture earlier today, which gives us a glimpse at what the titular character would’ve looked like had one of those failed attempts to remake the classic film gotten off the ground.
The sculpture was spotted at Burbank, California’s, Creature Features FX shop, and though there’s no way of knowing for sure which of the many proposed remakes this design was going to be used in, the site speculates that this was likely the creature we would’ve seen in director Breck Eisner’s version, which was in the works back in 2005.
Check out the sculpture below, and let us know what you think.
Last we heard, Universal had hired Dave Kajganich to write a Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot, simply titled The Black Lagoon, though that project appears to have suffered the same fate as the many attempts that have come before it.
Will the creature ever again emerge from the black lagoon? Your guess is as good as ours!
