Maniac Cop Remake Back on Track; Director to Be Announced at CannesIt was back in 2012 that we learned Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was teaming up with original Maniac Cop director William Lustig to produce a remake of the fan-favorite horror flick, which really caught our attention and got us excited.

It’s been a couple years since we’ve heard anything about the project, but at long last the right to remain silent has been broken. Read on!

Screen Daily reports that the remake is back on track and that Ed Brubaker (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) penned the script for the film, which will be produced by Refn, Lustig and Wild Bunch. The director will be announced at Cannes, which kicks off on May 14th.

It’s highly unlikely that either Refn or Lustig will direct the film, which had previously been described by Lustig as being more of a prequel than a direct remake of the 1988 original. At the present time we have no way of knowing if that is indeed the direction in which Brubaker went with his script, though we expect to have more info for you real soon.
