Box Office: Just How Much Destruction Can Godzilla Do?

It’s a given that Godzilla is going to be a big moneymaker this weekend, but just how well will it do? Fandango seems to think that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have a blockbuster on their hands.
According to Fandango, Godzilla is grabbing 80% of ticket sales already, topping the site’s Fanticipation buzz meter with absolute ease, raking in 94 out of 100 points. What’s more, the film is outselling Thor: The Dark World, World War Z, Prometheus, and Pacific Rim at the same point in the site’s advance sales cycle. It currently represents more than 80% of this weekend’s ticket sales on Fandango.
“The fans appreciate the more serious tone of the movie, following the lead of the original film from 60 years ago,” says Fandango Fangirl Tiffany Smith, “and the slow roll-out of the monster has been epic. We’ve had only a few peeks at what the new Godzilla really looks like – and that’s definitely created a great build-up and anticipation from fans who cannot wait to see ‘Big G’ return to the big screen in all his glory.”
Fandango also talked to Cranston about his, er, challenges with the film.
