We’re closing in on the halfway point of the 13-episode first season of “Salem,” and next up is Episode 1.06, “The Red Rose and the Briar,” which reminds us there are two kinds of creatures in the woods: the hunters and the hunted. Here’s a sneak peek!
“Salem” explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them.

The series stars Janet Montgomery as the ruthless but vulnerable Mary Sibley, Salem’s most powerful enchantress; Shane West as handsome, hardened war veteran John Alden – and Mary’s onetime love interest; Seth Gabel as local aristocrat Cotton Mather, who fans the flames of Salem’s witch hunt; Ashley Madekwe as Mary’s mysterious, carnal accomplice, Tituba; Xander Berkeley as chief politician Magistrate Hale; Tamzin Merchant as the forthright Anne Hale, an artist with a perilous attraction to Alden; Elise Eberle as the mysteriously afflicted Mercy Lewis; and Iddo Goldberg as outcast Isaac Walton.
“Salem” Episode 1.06 – “The Red Rose and the Briar” (airs 5/25/14)
Alden (Shane West) and Cotton (Seth Gabel) find themselves face-to-face with a real witch, and an unlikely ally keeps the coven from tracking down their missing sister.
Tituba (Ashley Madekwe) feels left out when Mary (Janet Montgomery) decides to initiate a new member into the coven. As Mary takes her new acolyte under her wing, she recalls her own path after the fateful events surrounding Alden’s departure from town seven years ago.
Meanwhile, Alden and Cotton learn to their horror that the trials have actually been helping the witches – and soon find themselves under attack after they lose control of their captive.
