Meat Train Penner Finds Hell Within
Jeff Buhler, screenwriter of the upcoming Clive Barker adaptation The Midnight Meat Train (trailer), just wrapped up work on his directorial debut, Insanitarium, which we last told you about back in April. Like a true creative maniac, the man is already discussing what’s next for him, a film called The Hell Within.
Buhler talked to Fangoria about the film recently but found himself at a loss for words when it came to actually saying what the movie was about. “It’s unlike anything I’ve seen or attempted to write before, and I have loved every minute of it,” he told the mag. Calling it a mix of Rosemary’s Baby and Dead Ringers by way of macumba witchcraft, the story follows a woman who goes to great extremes to have a child of her own.
”She and her husband David have been trying for years [to conceive],” he attempted to explain, “but stress from work and aging seem to have taken their toll. Maria’s quickly approaching a serious emotional meltdown when one day the phone rings—it’s a little girl calling, and she sounds like she’s in trouble. In an effort to find out who this girl is and hopefully help her, Maria and David decide to fly to Brazil, the origin of the haunting phone calls, but what they find there is much more than they bargained for.”
Intriguing, yes; even more so since he’s working with “Love From Mother Only” director and Embodiment of Evil (the new Coffin Joe film) screenwriter Dennison Ramalho. Needless to say, it’s going to be an interesting film to keep an eye on; all we have to do is wait for the WGA strike to settle so they can get to work on shooting it. You’ll hear more when we do!
