The Bay Gets a Monster Slayer
It’s not easy for a film to sneak up on us these days, what with all the festivals going on right now that are usually full of flicks we’ve been waiting months for, but Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer kinda took me by surprise, I will admit.
Making its premiere at Slamdance Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter got wind this morning that Anchor Bay has already snatched up all the North American distribution rights for the 80’s throwback, making a mid-six figure deal with a theatrical commitment. Today’s a good day to be Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer helmer Jon Knautz!
The story follows the titular Brooks, played by Trevor Matthews, who watched his parents get slaughtered in front of him as a child. As he grows older he grows more and more angry, until eventually he unleashes an ancient evil and creature feature madness reigns supreme. Fear Fest ’08 guest of honor Robert Englund also stars.
Paranormal Activity (review), Trailer Park of Terror and Dear Zachary are some of the other Slamdance films getting distributor interest, so expect to hear more soon! Check out the Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer official site to learn more about the movie!
