Daniel Myrick Plans The Objective
This week we were invited to talk to Blair Witch co-director and “>Otis (review) producer Dan Myrick about his upcoming projects.
Dan has wrapped up production on a sci-fi thriller called The Objective. It’s going to be playing at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this year, and if all goes well, the flick may be picked up for domestic and international distribution. Plenty of positive voices are out there about The Objective so there’s a good chance it’ll be an easy sell to distributors.
The project is about a CIA agent who, along with special force ops, is tracking down something that is supposed to be a WMD in Afghanistan. After a series of events, it turns out that the object in question is a UFO/sentient being that is attacking all who come near it out of self defense. This new force on Earth appears to be totally unstoppable, and with no way to communicate with it, who knows if it is a threat or not?
Dan is tapping into his background in cinéma-vérité (Blair Witch) to provide the audience with a memorable and eerie image of the mysterious entity via a special IR camera. These parts of the film are some that he has taken the most pride in.
Mr. Myrick also has another horror feature in the works called Savant, which will be about a villain who is capable, thanks to a special power, of turning ordinary people into serial killers. For more information on Dan’s upcoming work, make sure to check out Gear Head Pictures’ site. There you’ll also get a tease of the IR camera shoots the director is so pleased with.
