From the Press Release
The fifth annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Los Angeles honors American horror icon H.P. Lovecraft with an international film festival featuring new and classic Hollywood and independent feature films and shorts at the classic art deco-styled Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro (478 W. 6th Street) from Friday, September 26, at 7PM until Sunday, September 28, at 4PM. But it’s also a celebration of weird and cosmic horror in all media, from art and literature to gaming, fashion… and pickles.

Thanks to our fanatical Kickstarter donors, the festival has already left its mark on San Pedro’s funky arts district with a surreal mural by Oakland street artist Skinner on the backside of 650 Mesa St.

This year’s theme celebrates Lovecraft’s weird seaside masterpiece “The Shadow Over Innsmouth,” and Friday’s program is a banquet of fishy short subjects topped off with the Universal classic Creature From the Black Lagoon, shown in 3D, just as it premiered 60 years ago. Legendary FX artist and Creature expert Bob Burns is slated to introduce the film and may bring a few surprises from his museum of movie monsters. Pub trivia at San Pedro favorite The Whale & Ale closes out the evening.

Saturday’s program kicks off with a literary program of readings featuring NY Times bestselling author Nancy Holder (Buffy the Vampire Slayer books), screenwriter and award-winning author John Shirley (The Crow motion picture; In Extremis ), plus Leslie Klinger (The New Annotated Lovecraft), Gary Myers (House Of The Worm), Cody Goodfellow, Ross E. Lockhart (The Book Of Cthulhu I&II), Michael Tice, and Scott Virtes. The Lovecraft Historical Society’s Dark Adventure Radio Theater group will perform “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” live onstage. Photographer Joshua Hoffine will introduce his latest short film and unusual photographic portfolio. After a block of remarkable new indie short films, our feature presentation is Die Farbe, a breathtaking German adaptation of HPL’s The Colour Out of Space. After the after-party, die-hard cinema cultists may partake of a secret screening of forbidden Mythos films at the Esoteric Order of Dagon’s All-Night Revival.

Sunday brings a return of the infamous Cthulhu Prayer Breakfast,  Lovecraftian gaming at the Grand Vision Foundation, and the Pickman’s Model art competition at the Crafted Brewery’s gallery space. An exhibit of weird art will debut before the festival at Crafted and will be on exhibit throughout October. Other guests include filmmaker Brian Yuzna (Dagon, Beyond Re-Animator), bestselling author John Skipp, and artists Nick Gucker and Mike Dubisch. Over a dozen vendors will sell their bizarre wares at the Mall of Cthulhu from Sigh Co. Graphics and Cthulhu Pickles to Fez-O-Rama.

This festival is presented courtesy of the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Lurker Films and produced by HPLFF-SoCal, LLC. The Warner Grand Theatre is a facility of the City of Los Angeles, operated by the Dept. of Cultural Affairs
