Richards’ Summer Scars Gets Distro Deal
Julian (The Last Horror Movie) Richards’ latest horror entry, the coming-of-age thriller Summer Scars, just took home two awards from the BAFTA Cymru Awards and signed an all-rights distribution deal through TLA Films.
In case you’ve not been following the film’s ascension, how about some official plot to warm you up? Six 14-year-old children skip school to play in the woods, but some hot rodding on a stolen moped changes the fate of their day. They crash into Peter, a disheveled loner, who is delighted to have a group of kids to hang out with. First he gains their trust by joining in their games, but then his behaviour begins to change. Peter uses what he has learned about the kids against them – bullying the alpha boys, belittling the weaker ones, and saving his worst for the only girl of the group. The gang realize too late they are being held prisoner, and when Peter acknowledges he has gone too far, things really start to get scary.
Al Wilson took home the Best Newcomer award for his Summer Scars screenplay, and Craig Wilkinson won the Best Graphics award for the Scars title sequence. Summer Scars was also nominated for Best Film.
Following the film’s screening at the London UK Film Focus, Richards’ sales shingle Jinga Films signed a North American distribution deal with TLA Films, who will release Scars as part of its “TLA Presents” and “Danger After Dark” labels.
”This success is all about the newcomers,” Richards said at the BAFTA Cymru Awards Ceremony. ”There is an enormous wealth of untapped talent in Wales, and I am so pleased that Summer Scars has provided the opportunity for them to break into the industry. But it’s also a triumph for Film Agency Wales, whose support for Summer Scars made it all possible.”
Congrats to Richards and crew on their success! Keep it here for more release specifics as TLA locks down the details.
