Scream Factory Laughing It Up with Announcement of Vampire’s Kiss and High Spirits Double Feature Blu-ray
The “Shocktober” surprise Blu-ray announcements from Scream Factory are now becoming downright inexplicable. How else to explain their latest reveal: a double-feature Blu-ray of the Nic Cage vampire comedy Vampire’s Kiss and the Steve Guttenberg/Daryl Hannah ghost comedy High Spirits.
Did not see that coming at all. Only way I could be more surprised at this point would be for them to start busting out titles like Electric Dreams or Moon in Scorpio.
The 1988 horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss may be more famous as the patient zero that Nicolas Cage’s special brand of on-screen insanity can be truly traced back to. The film is probably more known for the story of Cage method acting his role by actually eating a live cockroach in one scene. Now that’s dedication to craft!
Cage stars as a publishing executive who may be turning into a vampire or may just be going insane. Jennifer Beals and Maria Conchita Alonso co-star.
Packaged with it is Neil Jordan’s 1988 comedy High Spirits starring Steve Guttenberg, Daryl Hannah, and Peter O’Toole.
When Peter Plunkett’s Irish castle-turned-hotel is about to be repossessed, he decides to spice up the attraction a bit for the ‘Yanks’ by having his staff pretend to haunt the castle. The trouble begins when a busload of American tourists arrive – along with some real ghosts. Among the tourists are married couple Jack and Sharon. Sharon’s father holds the mortgage on Castle Plunkett so she’s hoping to debunk the ghosts. Jack, on the other hand, after meeting pretty ghost Mary, is very eager to believe. Can there be love between a human and ghost? Jack and Mary are going to try to find out.
As has been the case with all their other October announcements, word of any extras will come later.
Look for the Vampire’s Kiss/High Spirits double-feature Blu-ray in February of next year.
Expect even more Scream Factory Blu-ray announcements next week. What will they be? From the looks of things you might want to see what potential unreleased titles there are from the MGM library. For some reason I’m fully expecting to hear them announce I, Madman any day now. Though I’m hoping for Howling 2… Your Sister is a Werewolf just so I can hear Matt Fini’s “joygasms” from halfway across the country.
