Legendary Pictures continues its quest to create top quality genre programming with a new film called Figment. Deadline is reporting that “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” co-creator and co-star Rob McElhenney has closed a significant deal at Legendary Pictures to make his feature directorial and screenwriting debut.

With McElhenney armed with a four-minute test reel and a passionate 20-minute pitch, Legendary acquired his family-friendly film Figment.  In addition to writing the script and directing, McElhenney will also produce it.

Figment is described as:  A family action adventure about an imaginative boy and his family who are thrown for a loop when their greatest fears come to life.

The aforementioned pitch video gave a sense of the nostalgic feeling, wonder, and imagination that conveyed the bond between the key character and his “figment.” The film is said to have thematic aspirations to be comparable to Goonies or E.T.
