DVD Releases: Stare Into the Dead Pit
There’s not a helluva lot to look forward to come Tuesday, June 17th, but I’m sure you’ll find something you like…
Alive or Dead (2007)
Directed by Stephen Goetsch
While traveling down a lonely road, Maria comes upon an abandoned school bus by the side of the road. Someone has written “Help Me” on one of the back windows, and because she’s a curious girl, Maria goes to investigate, only to find out too late why someone wrote “Help Me” on a window. I’ll give you a hint; a psychotic killer with a thing for school busses that, since this is a Lionsgate release, probably looks nothing like the guy on the cover. Buy it here!
The Dead Pit (1989)
Directed by Brett Leonard
Finally, the “lost” Brett Leonard film is getting a proper DVD release, and an unrated one at that! The story is about a crazy doctor who was buried alive when the local townspeople realized that he was conducting bizarre experiments, then tossing his dead into a pit. Now the doctor is back, and he’s got an army of zombies to do his bidding! Sure it’s cool to see it on DVD finally, but nothing will beat the old VHS cover, in which the lead zombie had glowing eyes. That was badasss! Buy it here!
The Restless (2006)
Directed by Cho Dong-Oh
No, it sure as hell doesn’t look “horror”, but it’s got enough elements of our beloved genre to likely pique interests. Set in a world for souls that have passed away long before being reincarnated, The Restless tells of an epic love in a land ravaged by roaming demons and other denizens of the underworld. Swordplay, romance, martial arts, and the never-ending battle between good and evil; how can you go wrong? Buy it here!
The Sitter (2007)
Directed by Russell Mulcahy
Wow, what a bad cover. And a pretty terrible title, too. The plot’s not too great, either; a well-to-do California couple hire a girl they think is the perfect nanny, only for their friends and neighbors to start turning up dead. Someone finally does a background check on her and realizes that this is only the beginning of what the psycho has planned. From the director of Resident Evil 3! Buy it here!
