Grady Hendrix’s Horrorstör Novel Being Developed for TV
Word of yet another new horror-themed TV series in the works hit the Net this afternoon with The Jackal Group acquiring Grady Hendrix’s Horrorstör, published this past September by Quirk Books. He also has a follow-up novel due out from Quirk in 2016.
The Jackal Group is a co-venture between Fox Networks Group and Gail Berman, who first made her mark in TV as head of Sandollar Television, spearheading development of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel.” She held top posts at Regency TV, Fox, Paramount Pictures, and BermanBraun before launching Jackal this year.
Per Deadline, Berman will executive produce with Quirk CEO David Borgenicht. Hendrix will serve as a consultant.
“Horrorstör tells a compelling, old-fashioned horror story but against a contemporary and relatable backdrop,” said Berman. “This is truly a property that is meant to come to life in live action, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
“With ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel,’ Gail successfully conveyed stories that mixed horror and humor — a tone that is clearly inherent to Horrorstör,” Hendrix said.
Designed in the format of a furniture catalog, Horrorstör is described as a classic old-fashioned haunted house story set in Orsk, a Swedish-style big-box furniture superstore. Each morning Orsk employees arrive to find broken Kjërring bookshelves, shattered Glans glassware, and vandalized Liripip wardrobes — clearly someone, or something, is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five employees agree to spend a long dusk-till-dawn shift at the store, unaware of the darkness that awaits them.
We’ll have more as it comes.
