Sony Finds A Man in the Dark
We told you right before Halloween that Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez had a new movie cooking with Ghost House Pictures entitled A Man in the Dark, and today distribution news has arrived.
From the Press Release:
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has picked up worldwide distribution rights to the thriller A MAN IN THE DARK from Ghost House Pictures and Fede Alvarez. The announcement was made by Steven Bersch, SPWA President. “We’re thrilled to be in business again with the creative team behind Evil Dead, and to back Fede on his next picture,” stated Bersch. “He and Rodo (Sayagues) have crafted a screenplay that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and we look forward to bringing the movie to audiences worldwide.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment has a long and successful history collaborating with Ghost House Pictures that includes six #1 box office hits, most recently Alvarez’s Evil Dead, the hit retelling of Sam Raimi’s classic which grossed nearly $100 million in worldwide box office.
Alvarez, who is set to direct, co-wrote the script with partner Rodo Sayagues. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House. J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, and Joe Drake will executive produce. Erin Westerman will oversee for the company.
The deal was negotiated by WME Global on behalf of Alvarez, Drake, and Michael Meyer for Ghost House and Jon Freedberg, Michael Helfand, and Joe Matukewicz for SPWA.
In A MAN IN THE DARK, three teens who get away with perfectly planned home robberies have set their sights on one last payout that will get them out of crime forever. Their target: a reclusive blind man with a million dollars in hiding. When they break into his home, the tables are turned, and they find themselves fighting for survival against a psychopath with secrets of his own.
Alvarez is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, and Karl Austen of Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein. Sayagues is represented by WME and Anonymous Content.
