Cliff Curtis Cast as Lead in AMC’s The Walking Dead Spinoff
The male lead in the pilot for AMC’s spinoff/companion series to “The Walking Dead” has been cast, and it’s a familiar face if you’ve watched the TV shows “Gang Related,” “Missing,” and/or “Trauma.” Read on for the details!
Per THR’s The Live Feed, Cliff Curtis (pictured; Sunshine, Live Free or Die Hard) will portray Sean Cabrera, a teacher who shares a son with his ex-wife, Andrea. The character is described as a good man trying to do right by everyone in his life. He joins the previously announced Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm, The Devil’s Hand), who have been cast as siblings Ashley and Nick Tompkins.

The pilot, which is being called “Cobalt” for the time being, was written by “TWD” creator Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. Adam Davidson will direct. Kirkman and Erickson (who also serves as showrunner) exec produce alongside “The Walking Dead’s” Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert.
The remaining characters that have yet to be cast include:
CODY CABRERA: Sean’s whip-smart and rebellious teenage son. Known as the angriest kid in town.
NANCY TOMPKINS: A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.
ANDREA CHAPMAN: A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.
The big question is who will portray Nancy, the other lead. THR reports that Anna Torv (“Fringe”) was among the actresses who were seen for the part, but she is no longer in the running.
Stay tuned for more as it comes!
