Tim Burton and Michael Keaton Eager to Make Beetlejuice 2 a Reality
Is a sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice ever going to actually happen? It’s a question we often find ourselves asking, as it’s one of those projects that has failed to happen more times than we can even count. But the ball just might be rolling, as both star and director are more into the idea than ever. Read on!
While promoting Birdman, Michael Keaton spoke to Deadline about Beetlejuice 2 over the weekend, revealing that while various roadblocks have prevented the project from moving forward, he and Tim Burton are still talking.
“Tim Burton and I have emailed about it. We’re both in the same situation (of always being busy on other projects). Neither one of us gets tired of the conversation,” said Keaton. “Tim says he’s working on something, then goes away for a while. At some point, someone is going to say we really want to do it. You don’t want to fuck it up, so it has to be perfect.”
Burton also spoke about the impending sequel over the weekend, indicating to Coming Soon that those roadblocks may finally be out of the way, as Beetlejuice 2 is now actively being developed.
“It’s a character that I love and I miss, and I miss actually working with Michael,” Burton said. “There’s only one Betelgeuse. We’re working on a script and I think it’s probably closer than ever and I’d love to work with him again.”
More hype for a project that won’t actually happen or long-awaited confirmation that it finally is? For now, all we can do is sit back and wait to hear more.
