In 1994 Catia and Thom Carnell launched their unique vision of a literate and informed “dark art” journal, CARPE NOCTEM Magazine. The publication was unlike any other available at the time, and with each subsequent release readers were more and more amazed by the beauty and perspective held within. Nowhere in print was there a more perfect union of dark beauty and intelligent writing.

In 2014 Catia and Thom announced a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of a 20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition of CARPE NOCTEM. Fittingly, just before Halloween, the project funded; and over the last 45 days Catia and Thom have been pulling together the issue.

Finally, they can announce what’s in the issue as well as present the image (by artist Cliff Nielsen) that will grace its front cover.

What’s in the issue?
This unique commemorative publication features some of the most important artists in the “dark art” field:

  • Interviews with FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND cover artist Basil Gogos, Lucio Fulci composer Fabio Frizzi, standup comic Christina Paszitzky, artist Bill Sienkiewicz, author Jillian Venters (GOTHIC CHARM SCHOOL), comic artist Joe Jusko, director/animator Phil Mucci, TETSUO: THE IRON MAN director Shin’ya Tskukamoto, and musician Aurelio Voltaire.
  • Art profiles of Autumn Adamme of Dark Garden Corsetry, Chad Michael Ward, Nicole Valentine, John Carey, Thomas Dodd, Ken Meyer, Jr., Nick Gucker, Monica Richards, Pamela Wilson, and Paul Komoda.
  • Editorials by writers Brian Hodge (WHOM GODS WOULD DESTROY), Caitlin R. Kiernan (THE DROWNING GIRL), Lorelei Shannon (POSSUM KINGDOM), Projekt Records CEO & black tape for a blue girl founder Sam Rosenthal, and musician William Faith (Faith and the Muse, Shadow Project, Christian Death) among others.
  • Fiction by Stoker Award-winning authors Brian Keene (THE RISING), Rain Graves (THE GOSSAMER EYE), and Weston Ochse (SEAL TEAM 666). Poetry by Stoker Award-winning poet Linda J Addison.

Hearty congratulations to Catia and Thom on the success of their campaign!  Orders for the magazine (as well as tees and books) are currently being taken at CarpeNoctem20.com.
