Ben Templesmith’s Art of Wormwood Collection
In case you’ve forgotten, the first issue of famed artist/author Ben Templesmith’s newest comic series Welcome to Hoxford is now available from IDW Publishing. But that’s just the beginning of the treasure trove of Templesmith goodness heading our way!
On August 27th IDW will release The Art of Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, a collection of all the notable art plus a large amount of sketches, unpublished ideas, and never-before-seen paintings from Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse. It also includes an original Wormwood short story.
Not familiar with the character? IDW explains Wormwood as follows: an “English-accented, beer-drinking, sentient corpse possessing a maggot expat from the Hell dimension. Well, one of them. If he’s not attempting to save Earth from demonic, parasitic fungal infections, or undead strippers, then he’s off drinking with his homemade mechanical sidekick, Mr. Pendulum.”
Never at a loss for words, the colorful Templesmith describes Wormwood, his second solo comic series, as a “riff on Doctor Who, if it were more demonologically oriented and written for very juvenile adults with a sick sense of humor. Wormwood is really just me having fun and trying to throw in as many disgusting perversions of my old childhood influences.” Those influences include the science-fantasy cosmos of H. P. Lovecraft’s Old Ones and the work of H. R. Giger.
Along with the standard version, IDW is also offering 500 copies of a special hardcover edition with a numbered tip-in plate signed by artist Ben Templesmith as well as only 100 copies of a deluxe limited edition hardcover that includes an all-new, hand-drawn Wormwood sketch by Templesmith.
