One of last year’s most critically acclaimed horror films was A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, which touted itself as being the very first Iranian vampire western. Writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour has already set her sights on her next film, and we’ve got the scoop for ya today!

In an interview with The Film Society of Lincoln Center, Amirpour spilled the beans about the follow-up to her impressive debut feature, which looks to be as gloriously unconventional as the film that put her name on the map.

My next script is called The Bad Batch,” said the filmmaker. “It’s a cannibal love story set in a post-apocalyptic Texan wasteland. There’s going to be muscle men and amputees set against a desert backdrop. I want to shoot anamorphic color and have a look and feel of the ’80s and ’90s with an eclectic soundtrack that’s part techno, part Western, and part ’90s pop.

Amirpour describes the film as “Mad Max meets Gummo,” indicating that it’s going to be quite an unusual little treat.

It’s going to be really weird and romantic and also very violent,” she promises.
