Anti-Bullying White Rabbit Aims for Wider Release with Kickstarter Campaign
Social commentary is a common trait among some of the best horror films; will the anti-bullying White Rabbit continue that tradition? The film is set for release by Breaking Glass Pictures in 10 cities and on VOD starting February 13th, but the filmmakers are hoping to reach a much wider audience. And you can help them achieve their goal.
From the Press Release:
The White Rabbit family has launched a Kickstarter campaign to spread awareness and help get the film into as many theaters as possible. White Rabbit is much greater than just a film; it is a statement about one of the greatest problems existing in our society today – bullying and how that brings about youth violence.
The team decided to come to Kickstarter because nearly everyone has either been bullied or knows someone who has. With your help we can get this visceral message the right amount of exposure and truly create a meaningful impact on today’s youths.
Directed by Tim McCann (The Poker Club), White Rabbit stars Sam Trammell from “True Blood” and The Fault in Our Stars, Britt Robertson from “Under the Dome” and Disney’s upcoming Tomorrowland, and Nick Krause from The Descendants.
Following in tradition of Gus Van Sant’s acclaimed Elephant, White Rabbit follows a bullied high school student’s descent into madness. “With White Rabbit we are trying to bring these issues into discussion in order to help find a solution,” says Krause.
“Hopefully you will help us get this film to the audience it deserves,” adds Trammell.
Backers can pledge as little as one dollar for the campaign. Prizes including autographed DVDs, White Rabbit t-shirts, and digital extras; a link to the film will be rewarded to everyone who pledges at least $5. Screen credits and premiere tickets are available for large donors.
Kickstarter has selected the White Rabbit campaign as a favorite “Staff Pick.” The campaign will end January 21, 2015, and the project will only be funded if at least $45,000 is pledged. With your help we can push this important message even further!
There’s a little over a week to go so if this sounds up your alley, head on over to the White Rabbit Kickstarter page to learn more.
White Rabbit will be playing in the following cities with more to be announced: Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, San Diego, Detroit, and Miami.
The film made its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival and its North American premiere at the 2014 Catalina Film Festival, where it won Best Feature Film. It also won Best Cinematography at Chelsea Film Festival and Best Actor (Krause), Best Supporting Actor (Trammell), and Best Supporting Actress (Robertson) at the Boston Film Festival.
Synopsis:
Harlon (Krause) is a troubled teen who has been tormented by visions since his alcoholic father (Trammell) forced him to kill an innocent rabbit while hunting as a boy. Now that Harlon is a bullied high school student, his undiagnosed mental illness is getting worse. He begins to hear voices, and his imagination encourages him to carry out violent acts. Things begin to look up when Julie (Robertson), a rebellious young girl, moves to town and befriends Harlon. But when she betrays him, the rabbit, along with other imaginary comic book characters, taunt him into committing one final act of revenge.
