Key Cast Member Leaving The Vampire Diaries Soon
He’s left before – and died even! – but now it’s official: “The Vampire Diaries”‘ Jeremy Gilbert, played by Steven R. McQueen, is moving away from Mystic Falls in search of greener pastures.
Per EW, exec producer Julie Plec said of the character, “It’s time for him to go out and live his life, and we’re actually going to say goodbye to Steven R. McQueen as a series regular,” Plec says. “He’s growing up and moving on. He will be out living a real life.”
We’ll last see Jeremy in the upcoming Episode 6.14, “Stay” (air date TBA). Of course in TV land no one stays gone forever so there’s a chance he could pop up in the future. Added Plec, “He could show up at weddings, funerals, and series finales for sure, but this journey is taking him to another place.”
With all the character has been through, why is now the time for him to leave? Plec explained, “We’re in the third act of our storytelling of the show. Everything that we’re doing is moving towards the end. Over the course of the next few years, we will need to start having the characters make choices about what they want with their lives and say goodbye to some people. It’s all part of moving toward the end, however long that takes.”
“The Vampire Diaries” returns from its holiday hiatus on January 22nd with an episode directed by series star Paul Wesley.
