David Goyer Set to Flash Forward for ABC

David GoyerThis story might be a little more sci-fi than horror, but considering the parties involved, I don’t see how we can pass up covering it. The Hollywood Reporter reports that “Flash Forward”, the script for which was penned by David Goyer (pictured) and Brannon Braga, is close to landing at ABC with a pilot order. As you should know by now, Goyer wrote this year’s uber-hit The Dark Knight along with all three Blade films, among many others, and Braga’s credits include the series “Threshold” as well as all three “Star Trek” TV entries “The Next Generation,” “Voyager,” and “Enterprise”.

Based on the Robert J. Sawyer novel of the same name, “Flash Forward” begins with everyone in the world blacking out for exactly 2 minutes, 17 seconds and experiencing an enigmatic, futuristic vision. As you might expect, the network sees “Flash Forward” as a perfect companion piece to genre fan favorite “Lost.” Goyer is slated to direct the pilot and co-produce with Braga and Jessika Borsiczky Goyer along with Vince Gerardis and Ralph M. Vicinanza, who own the rights to Sawyer’s book. ABC Studios is in negotiations to produce.

THR’s story includes a lot of the behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing that’s taken place to bring the project this far (i.e., it was originally developed at HBO, and when they passed on proceeding, a bidding war occurred between ABC and Fox, which in turn led to a bit of a conflict of interest for Braga due to his involvement with “24”, and so on…), so if that sort of thing interests you, be sure to hit the link for all the gory details.

We’ll be following “Flash Forward” closely to see how it develops, and in the meantime click here to order the novel from EvilShop to get a jump on the rest of us who think it sounds like a pretty cool premise.
