Well, this seems like a no-brainer. Cinemax has picked up Robert Kirkman’s exorcism drama pilot “Outcast” with a 10-episode order.

Kirkman, creator and exec producer of “The Walking Dead,” penned “Outcast,” based on one of his comics, on spec for Fox International Channels, which developed the project internally. Cinemax then acquired the script and greenlit a pilot last July. Per Deadline, Kirkman serves as executive producer alongside Chris Black, David Alpert of Circle of Confusion, Sharon Tal Yguado of FIC, and Sue Naegle.

“Outcast,” based on Kirkman’s Skybound/Image comic title (the artist is Paul Azaceta), follows Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson (Philip Glenister), a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever. Gabriel Bateman co-stars. The pilot was directed by Adam Wingard.

“We are thrilled to be in business with Robert Kirkman, a visionary talent who has the unique ability to tap into today’s zeitgeist, making him a perfect fit for the newly expanded Cinemax roster,” said HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo.
