Snyder’s Army of the Dead Still Alive!
Well, at least we can end the week on the good news that Zack Snyder’s long-awaited zombie epic, Army of the Dead, has still got a pulse. As it were. Fangoria recently chatted with the director at a presentation for a little indie film he just completed called Watchmen, and he gave the lowdown on the status of Dead.
”Army right now is in sort of long-lead pre-production,” Snyder explained to the mag. “We’re trying to decide what exactly to do with it, so it’s kind of hovering a little bit. I love the zombie genre, and I want to do it right, but we’re just still haggling over budget with the studio.” Ah, the studio; a filmmaker’s best friend and worst enemy.
Matthijs van Heijningen, a TV vet like Snyder, is attached to direct Army, which Zack and wife Deborah will serve producing duties on. “He has a quality to his work that I really like; he sort of gets the irony of horror. ’Cause I never want to let the viewer off the hook. I want the audience to understand that there’s more to it than just the horrification; I want it to go a little further.”
The story of Army of the Dead revolves around a father trying to rescue his daughter from a zombie-infested Las Vegas. Hopefully more good news is forthcoming so keep your eyeballs glued here!
