The Blob Growing Legs for Simon West’s Remake?
Years after Rob Zombie left the project, Simon West (Con Air) boarded the second remake of 1958’s The Blob back in January, and this week he has offered an update on the project. The news is quite surprising so be sure to read on for the latest.
In a quick interview with Screen Relish, West seemed to hint that his version of the titular monstrosity will be quite unlike the creature seen in both 1958 and 1988, as it will apparently have two legs and be more akin to a traditional movie monster.
“It’s going to be much more sci-fi than the original,” West revealed. “It’s a bigger scale type of movie. It’s more ALIEN meets PREDATOR, and designing the creature is a long and involved process cause it’s very sophisticated. It’s not going to be the goo pouring through windows. So that’s taking a while to design and construct that.”
West is currently in London shooting combat thriller Stratton, and he says that The Blob will be his next project. He expects to begin shooting in either August or October, depending on how long it takes to nail the creature design.
The original film, which was released by Paramount, starred a young Steve McQueen. The story sees a gelatinous alien life-form emerge from a crashed meteor and begin to ooze through Downingtown, PA, eating the townsfolk as it goes.
