Exclusive: Michael Bartlett Talks Zombie Diaries 2, Forever Darkness & More!
With the impending release of The Zombie Diaries (review here) hitting DVD in a few days, co-directors Michael Bartlett and Kevin Gates are showing no signs of slowing down at all. In fact the duo are working on no less than three new projects including The Zombie Diaries 2.
“We have a couple of ideas for our next film right now,” says Bartlett. “The first is called Forever Darkness, and it will basically be a cross between The Mist and Pitch Black. It takes place in a rural community in the present day, and the gist of the film is that something is coming but we don’t know what it is that’s approaching. Everywhere that it has hit so far we cannot establish communication with. It all shows from the characters’ perspective as if you were there. You’re not going to get any type of exposition so that you know more than the characters going through this. You experience it with them.”
“The second film is called Timeless,” Bartlett continues. “A time travel film that is basically a cross between Leon and The Butterfly Effect. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic 2012 after the Olympic Games in London, and it will be shot very much like Children of Men and Jacob’s Ladder.”
When asked about the possibility of The Zombie Diaries 2, Bartlett had this to offer … “Kevin has already written Zombie Diaries 2! He doesn’t hang around! There are some sequel rights we have to hash out right now, but my personal take on it is that although it’s a good idea, I’m not sure that it’s the film that we should make next. As a director, after you make one of these movies and then make another one, you can find yourself being typecast and pigeon-holed. I’d like to make another film first and then revisit.”
Well, then, you can bet your ass we’ll be watching! Keep an eye out for the entire interview coming soon!
